Frequently Asked Questions!?

Ideal time to install shingles is either spring or fall when it’s not too hot or not too cold. Shingles stick down well during those months. We start replacing the roofs as early as mid February and go on till the end of December. While we do not recommend installing shingles when temperatures are extreme such as below -10*C or above 40*C, anytime in between is good for getting the roof fixed.

The most common type of roofs in the GTA are with 3 tab shingles. Their life span is typically between 12 to 17 years. If your roof is around 14 to 15 years old, it is about time to start thinking about replacing it. It is much better to get a new roof and fix the problem once and for all, instead of spending hundreds of dollars on roof repairs every year.

We understand that sometimes it could be financially challenging to consider replacing the entire roof, especially when you have not planned for it in advance. We provide free inspections to guide you in making the best decision according to your needs.

It is a very common phenomenon for one side of the roof to deteriorate before others. The reason behind this is the exposure to the sun and/or the structure of the roof. Some roofs are built in a way that there is snow built up during the winter months in certain areas, which causes those areas to deteriorate faster.

While the common sense would be to save money and just get the damaged side done for now, but we absolutely do not recommend that. The cost to replace one side may be comparatively low but you end up spending a lot more money by the time you get the whole roof done in the next two to three years. Moreover, the older side would never have the same color as the newer one and it affects the overall appearance of your house.

We have tried and tested virtually every common brand of shingles present in the market. The brand that we trust the most is Owens Cornings. We started using their “Duration” shingles for the past couple of years and we are happy with their performance so far. Despite major wind storms in the past few years in the GTA and surrounding areas, we did not face a single blow off with these shingles. Moreover, we are now a Preferred Contractor Member with OC Canada, So our material warranty is registered and backed by Owens Corning.

Even though we are a little bit biased towards Owens Corning, There are some other brands that make great shingles such as GAF timberline and Certainteed Landmark and we have no problem installing them. Let us know if you want to choose any other brand other than OC Duration.

Every roof needs enough vents to prevent any moisture build up in the attic. Standard vents cover about 300 square feet of attic space per vent. It can vary for different vent types.  We can always add more vents to the roof to eliminate any ventilation problems you may have. Please get in touch with our team to discuss more about your specific situation.

There are various factors to consider before comparing quotes from two different companies. The price may vary depending on factors such as the quality of the shingles, accessories used on the roof, quality of the workmanship, etc.

We advise you to be clear about what your needs are. You may not want to spend that much money on the roof if you are planning to sell it in the nearest future,or you may have just bought your dream house and you want to keep it long term. In that case you want the best possible roof you can get. Always do your due diligence before choosing a roofing company.

Always remember to look at the track record of the company and make sure your roofing contractor would honor their warranty if things go sideways.

Choosing the color for your roof is entirely your choice, it does not make any difference to the overall quality of the roof. However, it is believed that darker colors keep the house warmer during the summertime. We can not provide any scientific proof behind this notion.

We advise you to look at our photo gallery to see different shingle colors and brick combinations. Alternatively, you may find a roof with similar color that you are trying to go with so that you have a better idea of how it would look once done. Shingle colors may look a little different in the pictures than actual shingles.

While it is best to get the entire roof done at once for a semi-house, neighbors do not always decide at the same time. In case your neighbors are not ready yet, there is nothing for you to worry about. We know how to tie both roofs together, so it is as good as it can be.

It was very common just a few years ago to use 3-tab shingles (organic shingles), especially by builders. They are still using it by the way. These shingles keep on blowing off every year because they do not stick together as well as fiberglass shingles.

A lot of homeowners get frustrated with these shingles and want to switch to a more durable option. While a metal roof is a very long term solution, it comes with a price tag that not everyone can afford. We do not recommend going for a metal roof only because your existing shingles are failing and causing you to pay hundreds of dollars in roof repairs every year.

The architectural fiberglass shingles that we use now are much better quality than three-tab shingles and they come with a registered warranty from the manufacturer for up to 50 years.  These shingles can provide you with a cost-effective as well as long-lasting option.

Underlayment is a protective sheet installed under the shingles. It is recommended by most manufacturers to cover the entire roof with an underlayment sheet before installing the shingles but it does not mean that it is a must.

In our Roofing Guide, We discuss in detail about types of underlayments and whether you need them or not.

We use a software to do our measurements and create an estimate. This system is highly accurate and prevents any chances of human error. In most cases the estimated cost of replacing the roof stays the same. There are only a couple of factors that could affect the total cost of replacing the roof.

  1. Two or more layers of shingles: There are roofs with shingles installed over another layer of shingles without removing the existing layer. We only find out about it once we start ripping the shingles. There would be an additional cost in such a case. The additional cost would be in accordance with your current estimate.
  2. Rotten or damaged plywoods: The plywood sheets under the shingles may be rotten or may become soft due to various reasons. There could be an additional cost in case we have to replace these sheets. In general, we include replacing up to 5 sheets of plywood in our upfront estimate.

I had contacted Real blue roofing Service to do insulation in the attic and install two washroom vents on my roof. The Real blue team who came were very Professional, and first thing explained to me what they were doing. So they first removed all the old insulation, installed two vents and plus two extra vents on the roof. They worked very hard with no water break or lunch break and on the way they took pictures of before and after. Also after the job completed they vacuumed the full area including the carpet on the stairs and left our very clean. Mr. Dill Singh all hats off for a superb job your team did at our place. This is the second time I have used this company, many years back they installed a new roof, and when I saw them in this new business and expansion I right away call them no doubt I had some more estimates from different Attic companies. If any one needs a roof replaced or attic take care they are the people you need to contact. I strongly recommend this company Real Blue Roofing Services for any work, their pricing is very reasonable and take the liberty to explain the full estimate and what needs to be done. Once again Mr. Dill Singh and your team who you deployed I don't know their names I personally thank you for their hard work (specially the guy who was in the attic doing the job). they worked very diligently, with no water breaks or lunch break in between, you very rarely find such honest, hard working and diligent workers. Please thank your crew on our behalf. This is why I gave them 5 stars, I could talk a lot about this company, but right now I say eyes closed if you need something done please don't hesitate to contact Real Blue Roofing Services. I would had pictures but I have not received them.
